Referral Process

Why Do We Need a Veterinary Referral?

At The Suddy Dog Rehabilitation Centre, your dog’s safety, comfort, and long-term wellbeing are always our top priority. That’s why we ask for a veterinary referral before starting any rehabilitation treatment.

A vet referral helps ensure that rehabilitation is the right and safest option for your dog at this stage of their recovery. Your vet understands your dog’s medical history, diagnosis, and any underlying conditions, and this information allows us to tailor a treatment plan that

supports — not risks — their health.

Rehabilitation therapies such as hydrotherapy and physiotherapy can be incredibly beneficial, but they are most effective when they are used appropriately and at the right time. Some conditions require rest, medication, or further investigation before starting therapy, and a referral helps us work in partnership with your vet to provide the best possible care.

We also believe strongly in collaborative care. By working alongside your vet, we can:

  • Ensure treatments complement ongoing veterinary care

  • Avoid contraindications or unnecessary discomfort

  • Set realistic, safe rehabilitation goals

  • Support a smoother and more confident recovery

We understand that when your dog is in pain or struggling, you want to help them as quickly as possible. Please be assured that requesting a referral isn’t a barrier — it’s a way of protecting your dog and giving them the best chance to heal.

If you’re unsure how to obtain a referral or would like us to help guide you through the process, our team is always happy to assist. We’re here to support both you and your dog every step of the way 🐾

How to Obtain a Veterinary Referral

We understand that organising paperwork can feel overwhelming — especially when you’re focused on your dog’s wellbeing. To make the process as simple and stress-free as possible, we offer multiple ways to obtain a veterinary referral.

You can choose the option that works best for you:

  • Visit us in person
Referral forms are available at our centre in Banbridge, and a member of our team will be happy to help you with the next steps.

  • Download a referral form from our website
You can download and print our referral form at home and take it directly to your vet for completion. Click here to download

  • Use our app
If you sign up to our app and complete your registration, we can send a referral request to your vet on your behalf, helping to save you time and effort. Click here to download the Equigate app.

  • Use your own vet’s referral form
Some veterinary practices have their own referral forms available, which we are more than happy to accept.

Once the referral is complete, it can be returned to us by email or brought with you to your appointment.

If you have any questions or need support at any stage, please don’t hesitate to get in touch — we’re here to help make the process as smooth and reassuring as possible for both you and your dog 🐾
